EASY STEPS TO MAKE REELS!

EASY STEPS TO MAKE REELS!

By Ananya Tripathi

Instagram is undoubtedly one of the most popular and exponentially growing social media platforms. Your profile reach (i.e., the traffic your profile gets) depends on how well you understand reels. In 2020, Instagram announced that they switched from a photo-based algorithm to a video-based algorithm.
So, what are reels?

Reels are short videos ranging from 15 seconds to 1 minute where creators are free to create content that helps them establish their niche and attract a particular audience for their profile.

How to make good reels?
  • Prepare a storyboard for your ideas.

You’ve heard that failing to plan is intending to fail. So, before you step in front of the spotlight, think about what you’re going to do.

There can be many topics that you’re passionate about and would excite you. You should think about what would be the natural step for your brand right now. What does your audience expect of you? What kind of audience you’re hoping to attract. Keeping all this in mind helps create content cohesive with your brand image.

After that, spend some time browsing the app and taking note of any visuals, language, trends, or aesthetics that you might be able to use as inspiration.
Plan your content by breaking down the clips you’ll need to shoot in order to make the demo reel once you’ve solidified your direction.
That way, you’ll have a visual representation of how your Reels will look and a good strategy to work from!

  • Shooting your reel

When shooting a reel, you need to be careful about what kind of background you’re working with, what extra objects you’re adding to create the aesthetics, and what kind of lighting you’re working with.
Color theory will always help to make a more cohesive color palette for your reel. Try not to use clashing colors as it could be jarring to the eyes and reels need to be very visually appealing to attract a large audience.
Dim lighting or a blurred video will always deteriorate your reach because in today’s day and age no one wants to see a sub-par video.
Using trending filters and transitions will give you a hefty boost as well.

  • Choice of audio

As good music gels with all kinds of content, if you merely keep an eye on the latest and trending music your reel will be promoted via the algorithm itself. You don’t have to use popular sounds to make reels, though. If you trust your gut, you’ll be able to generate the content your heart desires.

  • Create your niche and don’t blindly jump on trends

The world is filled with millions of people trying to make their mark. If you don’t come off as unique, you will just get lost in the pool of thousands of content creators. To stand out, think of what you can offer to this platform that nobody else can, bring out your true self, and try to make the content that’s wonderfully you.

Trends can be enticing but as a content creator, you need to always focus on your brand. There’s more than one way to do a trend, so modify them. Use your creativity and bend the trend to your requirements.

A new way to express yourself can be daunting and exciting. Checkout our Instagram @zooqfilms. Maybe you will find your inspiration there like many artists have.
